NYC Police Enhance Security Measures at Trump Tower After Attack

Former U.S. President Donald Trump (Trump) was attacked and injured during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening (July 13). Following the incident, the New York City Police Department subsequently intensified security measures around Trump Tower in Manhattan and other areas such as City Hall.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams wrote on the social media platform X on Saturday night, “The incident that occurred at the Pennsylvania rally today is deplorable. I pray for former President Trump, his family, and everyone attending the event today. Political violence has no place in this country.”

“For caution, the New York City Police Department is deploying additional officers to certain locations in five boroughs,” Adams said.

Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy, responsible for communication affairs at the New York City Hall, explained the security measures taken by the city on the X platform on Saturday night. He stated, “Out of caution, the New York Police will increase police presence citywide, including Trump Tower, 40 Wall Street, Foley Square, and City Hall.”

On Saturday evening (July 13), Trump was injured in the right ear during an attack at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. After receiving treatment, Trump has been discharged from the hospital. The gunman was shot dead on the spot by Secret Service agents. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated that the shooting incident at the Trump rally was an assassination attempt. The shooting incident also resulted in the death of one rally attendee and injuries to two others.

After the shooting incident, Trump supporters gathered outside Trump Tower in New York, holding American flags or wearing hats with the slogan “Make America Great Again.” On Saturday night, the crowd outside Trump Tower continued to grow. Security personnel were on high alert. Police patrols lined the surrounding streets.

According to CBS reports, a supporter said, “I realized what had happened, and then I started crying. I couldn’t believe what had happened. To think someone can treat a person like that, it hurts me deeply.”

Long Island resident Mohit Kumar said, “I don’t understand why people do such terrible things. If you don’t like someone, just ignore them. If you like them, support them. It’s as simple as that.”
