NVIDIA to Produce AI Supercomputers in the U.S. for the First Time

On Monday, April 14th, the American chip giant Nvidia announced its plan to collaborate with multiple companies, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), to build over $500 billion worth of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States within the next four years.

With the Trump administration imposing high tariffs on imported products, more and more companies are relocating their manufacturing and tech supply chains back to the US, with Nvidia being the latest example.

Nvidia’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated, “This is the first time the US is constructing the engine for the world’s AI infrastructure.”

“Joining US manufacturing will help us better meet the growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthen our supply chain, and enhance our resilience,” he added.

The AI chip giant revealed that TSMC has already begun the production of Nvidia’s latest generation chip, Nvidia Blackwell, at its factory in Phoenix, Arizona.

According to Nvidia’s announcement, the company is working with leading manufacturing partners to manufacture and test the NVIDIA Blackwell chip in Arizona, and to manufacture and test AI supercomputers in Texas.

The announcement mentioned that the production of the NVIDIA Blackwell chip has already started at TSMC’s chip factory in Phoenix, Arizona. Nvidia is also collaborating with Foxconn in Houston, Texas, and Wistron in Dallas to build supercomputer manufacturing plants, with mass production expected within the next 12 to 15 months.

“The AI chip and supercomputer supply chain is complex and requires state-of-the-art manufacturing, packaging, assembly, and testing technologies. Nvidia is partnering with Amkor (packaging and testing) and Silicon Precision Industries (IC packaging testing) in Arizona to expand packaging and testing operations,” the announcement stated.

Furthermore, Nvidia stated that over the next four years, in collaboration with multiple US-based companies, they aim to produce AI infrastructure worth over $500 billion. This marks Nvidia’s first complete design and construction of AI supercomputer factories within the US.

“These world-leading companies are deepening their collaboration with Nvidia, expanding their business while continuously broadening their global influence and strengthening supply chain resilience,” the announcement said.

Nvidia mentioned that the Nvidia AI supercomputers will serve as the engines for a new type of data center, with plans to establish dozens of “gigawatt AI factories” in the coming years. These investments are expected to create hundreds of thousands of job opportunities in the US in the next few decades, bringing economic security worth tens of billions of dollars.
