On February 17, 2025, the Chinese Elderly Association of Northern California held a Lunar New Year gathering and celebration banquet in Cupertino. Over ten guests gathered to enjoy delicious food, exchange camaraderie, and welcome the new year in a warm atmosphere.
Former president of the association, Qiu Leilei, founder Jin Yannan, second-term president Zheng Jisen and his wife, president of the Chinese Seniors Leisure Club Wei Xingxiang, president of the All-American Chinese School Union Wang Wanjun, and several board members of the elderly association attended the event. They enjoyed tea and engaged in heartfelt conversations, reflecting on the past and looking forward to the future.
President Qiu Leilei recalled the past two years, highlighting the most representative event of the association as the Parents’ Day celebration. Last year, they added traditional wedding elements to deepen the cultural connotations and attracted over 430 seniors and their families to participate, with a full house and enthusiastic response. She mentioned that the association has always provided a stage for seniors to showcase their talents and interact, allowing them to experience fun and accomplishment. She expressed, “The presidency is temporary, but friendships are enduring.”
The association’s seventh secretary-general, Lu Jingmei, stated that they will continue to serve the elderly, promote community engagement, and create a warm and harmonious elderly community.
To achieve this, the newly appointed president, Ma Qianjun, has planned various activities, including a food event on March 23 and a Parents’ Day celebration on June 28, where multiple elderly groups in the Bay Area will be invited to have lunch together and showcase their talents.
Additionally, they plan to hold golden and silver wedding anniversary events to honor the seniors’ enduring love and loyalty. They will also organize Chinese New Year celebrations, outdoor outings, and other diverse activities, welcoming community suggestions to make the elderly feel cared for and valued.
During the gathering, three centenarians stood out: the association’s founder Jin Yannan, second-term president Zheng Jisen, and his wife, all in good health and high spirits, showcasing their resilience and bringing blessings and positive energy to everyone present.
The luncheon proceeded in a joyful atmosphere, with guests savoring delicious dishes, enjoying snacks and fruits, engaging in lively conversations, and taking photos to commemorate this warm gathering, marking a beautiful conclusion to the event.
