The Democratic Party in Moore County, North Carolina, announced that the county’s Democratic chairman was arrested by the police last Friday, October 11th, for allegedly stealing roadside signs supporting Trump, and has since resigned from his position. The chairman, 68-year-old Lowell Simon, was accused of stealing political signs belonging to others.
In a statement, the Moore County Democratic Party mentioned that despite appreciating Simon’s efforts and dedication in the Democratic Party and community, they will not tolerate any crimes attempting to tamper with political signs or engage in other illegal activities.
According to the Moore County police, Simon was charged with unlawfully removing political signs belonging to others on Thursday, October 10th, committing two misdemeanor thefts of political signs.
After receiving a report, a deputy sheriff identified the male suspect as the Democratic county chairman, Simon, and conducted an investigation at his home, where the political signs were found inside his car. Subsequently, Simon admitted to the crime and returned the stolen signs to their rightful owners.
Simon later signed a written document promising to appear in court on time for questioning. He was released by the police without bail, with a scheduled court appearance on October 30th at the Moore County Courthouse.
Simon expressed regret for his actions and resignation earlier. The Moore County Democratic Party emphasized their zero-tolerance policy against any illegal activities related to political signs and affirmed their commitment to upholding the integrity of political processes.
