Nobel Prize Nominee Hada in Critical Condition, Wife Calls for International Attention

The Chairman of the Southern Mongolia Democratic Alliance, Hada, who is also known as Inner Mongolia in China, was urgently sent to the hospital by Chinese national security personnel a week ago, during which time his life was in danger. Hada’s wife, Nyna, recently called on the international community to pay attention to Hada’s health condition. Previously, Hada had just been officially nominated as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.

According to Radio Free Asia’s report on February 3, Nyna revealed in an interview that on the day when Hada was critically ill, their son Willys received a call from the National Security Bureau. When Willys rushed to the hospital at 2 p.m., Hada was in the emergency room in critical condition, with his various organs gradually failing. The hospital showed Willys a critical condition notice, but did not allow him to take photos.

Photos provided by Nyna showed Hada in the intensive care unit wearing a ventilator, receiving intravenous injections. There were multiple bruises on his left leg from the thigh to the ankle, especially the ankle which had turned purple and black.

Hada has devoted his life to the human rights and national self-determination movement of Inner Mongolia. In 1995, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Inner Mongolian authorities on charges of “splitting the country,” and after his release, he continued to be unlawfully detained. In the past five years, Hada has been under house arrest in the northern suburbs of Hohhot, with police monitoring the house opposite theirs all year round.

According to Nyna, Hada has been incontinent at home, and the hospital even gave him a blood transfusion. It wasn’t until New Year’s Eve that the police said they had come to rescue him. On February 2, Willys received another call from the doctor saying that Hada could now eat liquid food and did not need a feeding tube.

Nyna stated that from 1995 to now, Hada has been detained for a total of 30 years, and his mind and body have been severely tortured. Hada’s condition is caused by high blood pressure, and the bruises on his body are due to poor microcirculation. The doctor even said that there was a sour smell coming from Hada, which is the smell emitted before a person dies. She and her son were also once falsely imprisoned for speaking out and exposing the truth.

Nyna expressed her deep sorrow, stating that this is the harsh reality of human rights in Inner Mongolia. The continuous persecution of Hada and her family by the Chinese authorities is also a epitome of the grim human rights situation in Inner Mongolia. She earnestly urged the international community to further pay attention and urged the Chinese authorities to immediately lift the surveillance on Hada and his family and give them true freedom.

The New York Southern Mongolia Human Rights Information Center previously stated that Hada had been officially nominated as a candidate for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The center’s director, Enhebatu Togochog, told the mentioned media outlet that after being released upon completing his sentence, Hada continued to be under soft detention by the authorities. “His physical condition is very poor, he has not received proper treatment, and Nyna is not allowed to see him. Recently, Hada’s health has deteriorated, which is related to the long-term detention by the authorities.”
