Residents in Ningbo, Zhejiang province have expressed shock after spending 270,000 yuan to send their parents to a nursing home, only to discover snails and even chicken feces in the meals served. The person in charge of the nursing home involved declined to comment on the matter.
Recently, a Zhejiang resident, Ms. Wang (alias), exposed that the meals at Ningbo Taikang Home were not fresh, containing snails, insects, and chicken droppings.
Ms. Wang revealed to Zheng Zai News on December 19 that since her parents moved into Taikang Ningbo Yongyuan Nursing Apartment (referred to as “Taikang Yongyuan”) in January this year, they complained of having digestive issues after every meal, citing problems with the food quality.
Upon informing the staff at the facility, Ms. Wang stated that the issue was not addressed, and she found the dishes to be unsatisfactory, saying they looked like leftovers, dumplings were hard, chicken eggs had feces on them, and there were even snails in the food.
Due to her busy work schedule and her parents’ need for professional care, after conducting a thorough on-site inspection, Ms. Wang selected Taikang Nursing Home for her parents, hoping they could spend their golden years there in comfort. She paid a lump sum of 270,210 yuan, only to find that it did not live up to the advertised standards.
Beginning in January, Ms. Wang paid a total of 270,210 yuan to Taikang Yongyuan, including a deposit of 100,000 yuan for her parents and a monthly fee of 19,800 yuan.
She mentioned that according to the contract, if they terminated within a year, they would have to pay a penalty fee of 30,000 yuan, 20,000 yuan in the second year, and 10,000 yuan in the third year, without any penalties for staying for three years.
Ms. Wang explained that despite discovering issues, she did not choose to leave immediately due to the penalty fees and her parents’ health conditions.
According to Tianyancha, Taikang Home Yongyuan (Ningbo) Elderly Care Service Co., Ltd., established in 2021, is a member of Tianjin Jiatai Hongde and located in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province.
The official website of Taikang Home introduces it as a brand of Taikang Insurance Group Co., Ltd., focusing on elderly care, nursing, rehabilitation entity construction, operation, and innovative services. As of November 30, 2024, there are 23 Taikang chain medical and nursing community facilities operating nationwide.
On October 25, Taikang Yongyuan issued a “Notice of Withdrawal” to Ms. Wang, requesting her parents to vacate the premises by November 5.
Ms. Wang mentioned that upon receiving the sudden notice, fearing that the facility would stop providing meals to her parents, she reported the situation to the relevant departments.
Following coordination by the authorities, Ms. Wang’s parents vacated on November 5, with Taikang Yongyuan waiving the penalty fee and one month’s fees.
On December 18, the head of Taikang Yongyuan declined to comment on the matter.
