On November 13, 2024, according to several American media outlets citing sources familiar with the matter, President-elect Trump (Trump) is set to meet with Republican lawmakers on Wednesday at Capitol Hill.
Republicans are eagerly awaiting the prospect of securing a trifecta victory, simultaneously controlling both houses of Congress and the White House.
Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, November 12, citing an insider, that Trump will meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson at Capitol Hill. It is revealed that the President-elect will also deliver a speech to rank-and-file Republican lawmakers.
Politico and Punchbowl also reported on Trump’s congressional meeting on Wednesday.
According to the publicly disclosed schedule, Trump will head to Washington D.C. on Wednesday to meet with President Joe Biden at the White House.
Bloomberg cited an informed source saying that Johnson will travel to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in southern Florida following the meeting in Washington.
The Republican Party’s majority in the House of Representatives is expected to be slim – Trump is appointing at least two Republican lawmakers to serve in his administration, making this challenge even more complex.
On Tuesday, several media outlets citing insiders reported that the President-elect has chosen Florida Congressman Mike Waltz to serve as National Security Advisor and intends to nominate New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. When they assume office, they will vacate their House seats, which will be filled after special elections.
The Republican Party has already secured control of the Senate in last week’s elections, with members preparing to elect a new majority leader. Florida Senator Rick Scott, a staunch supporter of Trump, is in a competition with John Thune of South Dakota and John Cornyn of Texas.
Thune and Cornyn are both longtime deputies of departing Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell.
Trump has not announced support for any candidate in the Senate leadership race.
