New York Police Department Commends Chinatown Chief Inspector Lo Teng during Asia Pacific Heritage Month Celebration

May 11, 2024 – This month marks the “Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month” (AAPI Heritage Month), and on the 10th of this month, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) honored Steve Luo, the first Chinese-American Deputy Inspector in the Fifth Division, who has been serving in the police force for 19 years.

According to a post on the NYPD’s official X platform account, Steve Luo immigrated to the United States from Shanghai at the age of 7 with a dream of achieving the American dream. Starting his career as a regular officer, he gradually advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Commander Detective in the NYPD through outstanding effort and talent. Currently, he leads an elite team of detectives responsible for investigating various crimes in Manhattan’s Chinatown and seeking justice for victims.

In a November 2022 interview with The Epoch Times, Luo mentioned that he is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese (which he learned after immigrating to the United States). He has previously worked in the Fifth Division, Thirteenth Division, First Division, and the NYPD’s Anti-Asian Hate Crimes Task Force. He stated that he is familiar with the community and believes he can make a greater impact here.

The NYPD on the X platform expressed its admiration for Luo’s trailblazing achievements and unwavering efforts in combating crime during this special “Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.” This recognition highlights his dedication and commitment to serving the community and upholding justice.
