Recently, egg prices in the United States have skyrocketed, with some areas selling a dozen eggs for over $12. In order to help customers buy eggs for less money, a grocery store in the Bronx, New York has introduced “loosie eggs”.
Currently, “Pamela’s Green Deli” in the Bronx is selling 3 loose eggs for $2.99, allowing consumers to purchase eggs without buying a whole dozen at once and easing the economic pressure. Store owner Radhames Rodriguez, in an interview with “CBS News,” expressed, “If you only have $20 and want to make breakfast for two or three people, spending $12 on eggs alone, how are you going to buy bread, milk, and butter?”
Rodriguez mentioned that in low-income communities, many residents struggle to afford the high egg prices, so this selling model can make eggs more affordable for more people.
Similarly, “J.J.N Deli Grocery” in the Bronx also offers packaging of three eggs.
According to statistics, egg prices in the United States have increased by 53% compared to last year, mainly due to the tight supply caused by avian flu. However, chicken meat prices have remained stable, as the breeds of meat chickens and egg-laying chickens differ, leading to variations in the degree of avian flu infection.
