The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced on the 28th that the E-ZPass system for toll collection, the Tolls by Mail website, and the Tolls NY mobile application will undergo the most significant upgrade in recent years. The system will be temporarily offline from 7:00 p.m. on April 9th to late night on April 14th, 11:59 p.m., but toll fees will still be recorded as usual. The new system will be launched and operational on April 15th.
The new system will integrate the E-ZPass and Tolls by Mail platforms, merging them into a one-stop service on the e-zpassny.com website. The upgraded system will support Apple Pay and Google Pay; introduce real-time online customer service and voice interaction systems; automatically update addresses; receive mobile SMS and email reminders; and provide a new bill format for easier inquiries and management.
After the upgrade, 1-800-333-8655 will become the unified customer service hotline for E-ZPass and Tolls by Mail, and the previous customer service phone number for Tolls by Mail will be discontinued.
During the system upgrade period, customers will not be able to use the website, app, or call customer service (1-800-333-8655). Toll fees will still be recorded as usual, and E-ZPass transponders (Tags) will continue to operate normally.
To minimize the impact, authorities will delay fines and collection efforts and extend payment deadlines. It is recommended that the public complete payments and account updates before April 9th.
