With only 3 days left until the presidential and federal elections in the United States, the New York State Democratic Party announced on November 1st that it will inject $100,000 to mobilize tens of thousands of Asian Americans in two key congressional districts in Manhattan to vote through direct mail and text message campaigns.
The targeted districts for mobilization are New York’s 1st and 3rd congressional districts, both of which have seen a rapid increase in the Asian American population. As the election day approaches this month, this promotional plan will play a crucial role in reaching out to multilingual voters.
Former CNN political show host John Avlon will represent the Democratic Party in the race for the 1st congressional district of New York, challenging the incumbent Republican congressman Nick Lalota for reelection. Congressman Tom Suozzi will be seeking reelection in the 3rd congressional district, with Republican challenger Mike Lipetri.
Jay Jacobs, the chairman of the New York State Democratic Party, emphasized that the Asian American community is a diverse group with various backgrounds and the fastest-growing population in New York State.
“New York’s Asian Americans have brought rich cultural heritage to the city, shown dedication to education and work, and their vitality drives New York’s economic development. It’s important to show our concern for the community and demonstrate that the Democratic Party is working to overcome challenges, creating a prosperous environment for Asian Americans to thrive and enjoy the beauty of New York,” said Jacobs.
Congresswoman Grace Meng and New York State Assembly member and co-chair of the Democratic Council on Congressional Campaigns Grace Lee have both issued statements in support.
Congresswoman Grace Meng expressed her delight in seeing Jacobs and the New York State Democratic Party continuing to invest resources in cultural outreach within the Asian American community. She highlighted that Asian American voters have always been a key factor in victories in national and state campaigns, from President Biden to Congressman Suozzi.
