Recently, a video titled “Student drives car up a tree” has gone viral online in mainland China. However, it was later revealed that it was a staged incident orchestrated by a driving school to attract attention, triggering criticism from netizens questioning, “Are driving schools resorting to such gimmicks now?”
The online video shows a white driving school instructor’s car “parked” high up in a tree, about four to five meters above the ground, with the words “XX Driving School” written on the vehicle. A crowd of onlookers gathered beneath the tree.
According to reports from Red Star News in mainland China, the video was posted on a self-media video account named “Boda Driving School Zihao.” In response to this, a coach from Yibin Boda Automobile Service Co., Ltd. in Songjiaba Industrial Concentration Zone, Changning County, Yibin, Sichuan, stated that the incident occurred on the morning of April 10 near the small car training ground of the driving school. The coach explained, “The enrollment staff of the driving school planned to put a car up on a tree just to attract attention.”
Reportedly, there are currently four driving schools in Changning, and coaches have revealed that there is intense competition among driving schools in the area.
According to relevant authorities, the vehicle was lifted onto the tree, and during the lifting process, there were multiple individuals climbing up and down the tree, posing safety risks. Subsequently, the driving school was summoned by multiple local departments. The video has since been deleted.
The news stirred discussions online. Many netizens commented, “What were they thinking, using such a trick to attract attention?” “These people nowadays can do anything, even this.” “Driving schools are really going all out to attract enrollment.” “Are all driving schools resorting to such tactics?”
“The risk involved seems quite high.” “Some users in the comments section pointed out that it was staged as a setup, with a crane hook nearby.” “Strict actions must be taken against such illegal activities.” “Their license should be revoked, and their platform account should be banned.”
Let’s hope that this incident serves as a cautionary tale against resorting to deceptive tactics for publicity and underscores the importance of maintaining honesty and integrity in all endeavors.
