New data indicates that the crime rate in Nassau County, Long Island, has dropped by 25.34% in the first two months of 2025. County Executive Bruce Blakeman refers to Nassau as the “safest county in America.”
Blakeman credited the decrease in crime rates to the diligent work of all law enforcement officers, corrections officers, probation officers, and his own strict commitment to law and order. Taking to his Instagram account, Blakeman stated, “Records show that in the first two months of 2025, major crimes in Nassau County have decreased by over 25% compared to the same period last year.”
According to local media citing data from the county police department, there were a total of 710 recorded crimes in the first two months of 2025, compared to 951 during the same period in 2024. This decline reflects improvements across various types of crimes, providing both residents and law enforcement officials with a sense of relief.
The seven major crime categories in the area, including murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny, and grand auto theft, have all shown significant decreases.
Specifically, robbery cases decreased by 51.06%, from 47 last year to 23 this year; felony assault charges reduced by 17.39%, from 69 last year to 57 this year; burglary has significantly decreased, especially residential burglary, dropping from 66 cases last year to 29 this year, a 56.06% decrease; grand larceny cases have also significantly declined, from 549 to 446 cases, an 18.76% decrease; car thefts decreased by nearly 18%, from 101 to 83 vehicles.
For the second consecutive year in 2024 and the first two months of 2025, Nassau County has not reported any murders. However, an incident of rape was reported this year, which was absent in 2024. There were no recorded cases of sexual crimes in the county in the first two months of last year and this year, except for two cases of sexual abuse this year.
Nassau County recently attracted public attention for its highly publicized cooperation with the federal ICE in apprehending illegal immigrants.
