Nanjing Customs Discovers 1.2 Kilograms of Pickled Rattlesnake “Snacks”, Sparking Controversy

Recently, Nanjing Customs discovered a 1.2-kilogram salted rattlesnake tail in a parcel declared as “snacks” in an inbound postal mail. This news attracted significant attention from the public and quickly climbed to the top of Baidu’s hot search list on February 16th.

According to a video released by the official Weibo account of the General Office of the CCP Customs on February 15th, on February 13th, customs officers from the Jinling Customs stationed at the post office in Nanjing conducted an inspection of an inbound postal mail declared as “snacks”. They found abnormal X-ray images and a strong odor emanating from the package. Upon opening and inspecting the parcel, they discovered a plastic canister with secondary packaging traces. Inside the canister was a salted rattlesnake tail weighing 1.2 kilograms.

Currently, the parcel is being held and not released in accordance with regulations.

This news stirred heated discussions among Chinese netizens after being reposted on various major platforms. Many expressed astonishment, with some remarking, “That’s too intense, daring to eat rattlesnakes is too dangerous.”

A netizen from Shanghai under the username “The Big Shot of the Herbal Medicine Store” commented, “They dare to eat anything, snakes carry many parasites, and they even dare to pickle them.”

“George Likes Football” added, “They are probably worried about toxicity, as rattlesnakes are highly venomous.”

Several netizens suggested enhancing public awareness to ensure that everyone understands that wild animals should not be imported.
