After being lured to Thailand and losing contact, mainland Chinese male model Yang Zeqi was rescued and returned to China on the early morning of January 17th, as indicated by his social media post with the IP showing Beijing location. In the video, although he appeared relaxed, keen-eyed netizens noticed that the nail on his right thumb was missing and the finger had black bruising, indicating possible abuse involving nail removal during his alleged kidnapping.
Yang Zeqi went to Thailand on December 20th with originally scheduled plans for a 10-day film shoot, but soon lost contact with his family. Following the Wang Xing incident, Yang Zeqi’s father followed suit with Wang Xing’s girlfriend, rushing to Thailand to report and seek assistance in rescuing his son, undergoing interviews with several Thai media outlets. The Thai law firm handling Yang Zeqi’s case revealed that it had been officially filed with the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of the Thai Central Investigation Bureau, ultimately leading to Yang Zeqi’s rescue on January 16th.
On the early morning of January 17th, Yang Zeqi posted a video on social media, reassuring everyone with the message, “Arrived safely and wanted to thank all my compatriots who have been concerned about me, along with my family and friends. I wouldn’t be back without each and every one of you, I love you all.”
Despite Yang Zeqi’s seemingly relaxed appearance, keen netizens noted the missing nail on his right thumb and the black bruising on the finger. Compared to past photos, leading to suspicions that he may have been subjected to abuse, possibly during the month he was missing.
So far, successful rescues in the Mai Wattana Industrial Park by the Thai police include actor Wang Xing, Jiangsu woman Wu Jiaqi, and model Yang Zeqi, all of whom were saved after gaining media attention. Wang Xing claimed there were 49 other Chinese victims kept in the same location, who remain missing to this day.
Yang Zeqi’s cousin previously described on social media that on December 18, 2024, he saw a filming notice in the WeChat group, applied through the provided contacts, and participated in the video auditions. Two days later, on December 20, 2024, in the early morning, Yang Zeqi flew to Thailand from Beijing Capital International Airport. The scam tactics used on him were similar to those used on Wang Xing.
Yang Zeqi appeared in Chen Kaige’s film “The Volunteers: Battle for Survival.” Reports suggest that the telecom fraud syndicate targeted Yang Zeqi’s appearance to deceive more girls, leading him to be lured to Mai Wattana.
Both Wang Xing and Yang Zeqi narrowly escaped danger, with their ordeals serving as a wake-up call for aspiring young talents in the film industry. However, despite the dwindling attention on actors being lured to Mai Wattana, rumors and recruitment offers continue to circulate in various film industry groups. Recently, a self-proclaimed “Senior Affiliate of Hengdian Studios” posted a recruitment notice for a film project called “Wolf Warrior 3: Mai Wattana Rescue” in Thailand, potentially deliberately obscuring the actual location.
Recruitment details indicated a need for 35 actors, including 30 females aged 18-22 with a height of 165 cm or above, requiring “no princess syndrome,” and 5 males aged 18-20 with a height of 190 cm or above, regardless of previous works. Additionally, several production crew positions were available. Payment for the 20-day shoot ranged from 800-1000 yuan per day, inclusive of meals and accommodations, requiring valid identification with contact details provided.
Similar recruitment messages continue to circulate daily in mainland China’s film industry WeChat groups, despite the Chinese Communist Party’s campaign against telecom fraud in 2023, as insiders reveal ongoing expansion of the KK Scam Park. Projects like KK Park and the Mai Wattana Asia-Pacific City under the Belt and Road Initiative have drawn criticism.
According to the “Star Project” initiated by netizens, over 1800 Chinese victims have been swindled to Cambodia and Myanmar. In 2022, a source interviewed by Hong Kong Epoch Times disclosed gruesome activities in Cambodia’s fraud parks involving organ harvesting and dumping bodies at sea, startling revelations. Recently, Hong Kong singer Eason Chan had to cancel his Bangkok concert in February due to concerns for his fans’ safety.
