“Mother’s Day Prize-winning Essay Contest” organized by “Epoch Times” announced the results.
This essay competition received support from readers around the world, with nearly 40 entries from Australia, the United States, and Taiwan. Although the entries all revolved around the theme of family love, the perspectives and approaches varied. Some touched on the pain of wanting to care for parents who are no longer there, some expressed gratitude for the warmth of a simple act of kindness, and some highlighted the importance of cherishing family ties. The authors’ writing styles also varied, some were heartwarming, some were profound, some carried a sense of history and narrative, while others were simple yet heartfelt.
What’s even more remarkable is that some articles subtly reflected the shadows of the times, portraying absurdity, distortion, hardship, or the challenges faced by kindness in a topsy-turvy world. Regardless of the writing style and intention, each word exuded sincerity and honesty, showcasing the eternal beauty of human nature.
In traditional Chinese culture, filial piety is an extremely important virtue. “Filial piety is the root of virtue,” filial piety is not only manifested in family life but also runs through different levels of society. Emperor Shun moved the heavens with his filial piety, governing his family, state, and the world with filial piety; Emperor Wen of Han, with a heart full of filial piety, served his parents and governed with benevolence and filial piety, ushering in the golden era of Chinese civilization known as “Wenjingzhizhi”; Min Ziqian’s compassion and love, as seen in his quote “When a mother is alive, a son should not leave her side; when a mother passes away, a son should not feel the cold,” touched his stepmother, transforming animosity into goodwill and becoming a model praised by future generations.
Despite the ever-changing times, traditions being neglected or forgotten, the true meaning of filial piety remains unchanged. May this essay competition inspire more people to approach those around them with a heart full of gratitude, cherishing every familial connection in their lives.
