On November 25, 2024, a document labeled “More than 200 words with 7 careless typos” and “Changsha County Health Bureau acknowledges work errors” surged to the top of Weibo’s trending topics. In addition to the 7 typos, netizens also discovered one error that caused the sentence to be incomprehensible.
On November 24, a netizen uploaded a document issued by the Changsha County Health Bureau, consisting of about 200 words, titled “Opinion on Lawful Performance of Duties,” showing multiple errors.
The document revealed typos such as “Changsha Hospital,” “Interpretation Center,” “Urgent Technical Task,” “Technical Care Car,” “Operation Handset Bracket,” “Integrated Learning,” “Related Matters,” and more. Some netizens noticed an 8th mistake, “Driver on one side.”
These glaring errors sparked a heated discussion on social media.
Netizens commented: “Why are there so many mistakes? Usually, in this kind of situation, the leaders send screenshots to subordinates. To save time, the subordinates use the character recognition function to directly print and stamp the extracted text, which explains why it looks like Wubi input and Pinyin input. As for the error that wasn’t discovered, it should be attributed to the leaders.”
“How did such incompetent individuals get hired? Government documents, being so childish, is outrageous.” “This document truthfully reflects their work standards.” “It’s about work attitude and cultural level. No need for further explanation.”
“It raises a question, how many people are living off the state while slacking off in government offices?” “They are all idling around, lacking a sense of responsibility. Can we expect them to serve the people?”
“For a document, it usually undergoes three levels of review. The first level, self-review by the author. The second level, office review. The third level, office head review and sign-off.” “A document should pass through the hands of three people: typists, proofreaders, and sealers. Yet, such mistakes exist, are they all just idling around? How is the unit being managed?”
Facing public criticism, the Changsha County Health Bureau responded that a staff member admitted to work errors, possibly due to the lack of strict proofreading during the process. They will resend a revised opinion document to the party involved.
