Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen today (11th) met with the participants of the “113 (2024) Far East Spanish Advanced Officers’ Class” from the National Defense University. In his speech, he emphasized that Taiwan will continue to strengthen its defense forces, enhance cooperation with democratic countries, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability.
President Tsai Ing-wen began his speech by welcoming the students who came from afar to participate in the “Far East Spanish Advanced Officers’ Class” on behalf of the people of Taiwan and the military personnel. The high-ranking officers, police officers, and civilian officials present are from Belize, Guatemala (Guatemala), Paraguay, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Spain. Their presence demonstrates not only support for Taiwan but also deepens the friendship among democratic countries.
Tsai pointed out that the itinerary of this far-east class is very rich, including attending six thematic lectures organized by the National Defense University and visiting government agencies, military bases, cultural institutions, and other important organizations. The purpose of the “far-east class” symbolizes the close cooperation between Taiwan and friendly countries in the military and security fields. Currently, the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party to regional stability continue to escalate, and the intrusions into the Taiwan Strait and surrounding gray areas are increasing day by day, posing a common challenge to global democracy.
As President and Commander-in-Chief of the military, Tsai’s mission is to ensure the country’s survival and development, and to protect the lives and property of all citizens. He also emphasized to the distinguished guests present that Taiwan will continue to strengthen its defense forces, enhance cooperation with democratic countries, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability.
He hopes that through the exchange of the “far-east class,” Taiwan and other countries can share more experiences and that the participants can brainstorm and learn new knowledge from different perspectives. “Let us promote the progress and development of each other’s countries together, and become a key force driving international peace and stability.”
Lastly, Tsai once again welcomed the students’ arrival, “injecting new strength into our friendship and cooperation. Wishing everyone a successful and fulfilling journey.”
The visiting delegation today was accompanied by Minister of National Defense Chiu Kao-chung, President of the National Defense University Liu Chih-pin, Belize Ambassador to Taiwan, Candice Pitts, Guatemala Ambassador to Taiwan, Oscar Adolfo Padilla Lam, and Paraguay Charge d’Affaires to Taiwan, Adriana Raquel López de Puerta, who went to the Presidential Office to meet with President Tsai, with Secretary-General of the National Security Council Joseph Wu also in attendance.
