In a recent incident in a four-star hotel in downtown Manhattan, New York City, a male victim was found dead in the hotel’s basement. According to police sources, the middle-aged male victim, identified as a Caucasian, was determined to have died by suicide.
The New York City Police Department’s 5th Precinct received a report of the incident on Sunday morning, around 11:13 am on April 21. Upon arriving at the Public Hotel located on Chrystie St and Stanton St, law enforcement discovered an unconscious 49-year-old man with multiple knife wounds.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. As of now, no arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing, and the cause of death will be officially determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office, with the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Sources familiar with the situation revealed to this publication that the deceased male, a Caucasian, resided near the Public Hotel, and his body was discovered in the hotel’s basement. The cause of death has been confirmed as suicide. It was disclosed that prior to his death, the victim purchased the knives used for the incident from a cutlery store on Bowery St.
Sources added that footage from hotel surveillance cameras captured the victim moving around the hotel premises after his entry.
Efforts to reach out to the Public Hotel for comments were met with resistance as the personnel handling public inquiries abruptly ended the call upon learning it was from a reporter.
According to Google Maps reviews, the Public Hotel is renowned as a four-star establishment known for its rooftop terrace bar.
