In a shocking incident in New York City’s Manhattan Chinatown, an 80-year-old Chinese woman narrowly escaped being sexually assaulted by a male illegal immigrant while she was out early in the morning.
According to the New York City police, the incident occurred around 6:08 am last Saturday (November 9th) when the elderly woman was walking near 95 Chrystie St. The 38-year-old Juan Hernandez pushed the woman to the ground, pinned her abdomen with his foot, pulled her coat, and attempted to remove her pants.
The police stated that the elderly woman resisted vigorously, but Hernandez forcibly bent her fingers, causing injuries to her hands.
Hernandez’s address is listed as 800 North Franklin St in Watkins Glen, New York, according to the information provided by the authorities.
However, according to the real estate website Zillow, this address is not a residential property but a sandwich chain store “Subway” and a Chinese restaurant called “Lucky Star.”
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the 5th precinct of the NYPD in Chinatown, as reported by sources to “Epoch Times,” and the innocent victim was identified as a Chinese woman.
On November 13th, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office replied to “Epoch Times” confirming that Hernandez is charged with attempted first-degree rape and two counts of second-degree assault, among other charges, with his next court appearance scheduled for Thursday, the 14th.
Court documents revealed that a compassionate passerby intervened just in time, pulling Hernandez away from the woman and preventing his assault. The Good Samaritan also subdued Hernandez until the arrival of law enforcement.
While Hernandez had no prior criminal record, federal authorities targeting him at least once for being an illegal immigrant prior to this incident raised concerns about his flight risk and potential to evade legal consequences.
Given Hernandez’s non-local status and the seriousness of the crimes committed, the prosecution deemed him at risk of fleeing and avoiding legal consequences, requesting the judge to set bail at $100,000. The judge, however, ultimately set the bail at $80,000.
