In recent months, a series of robberies have been occurring in mainland China’s jewelry stores. On July 12th, a 38-year-old man in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, held up a jewelry store with a toy gun, causing the store clerks to scream in fear. The man was apprehended shortly after.
On the 13th, a video circulating on the internet showed a man in a white shirt and black pants robbing a jewelry store in Zhejiang. The man appeared to be holding a gun, smashing glass with his feet, grabbing jewelry with his hands, and putting them into a backpack strapped to his body. The store clerks were in panic, screaming. Onlookers outside the store recorded the incident and commented, “He’s holding a gun.”
According to the Cixi Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang, the robbery took place around 8:30 pm on July 12th in Xiaolin Town, Cixi City. A man carrying a replica toy gun robbed a certain jewelry store and fled the scene. The suspect, 38-year-old Mao XX, has been captured.

Online commentators remarked, “What’s wrong with people nowadays? The last incident was in Hangzhou.” “There will be more of these incidents in the future.” “Robbery in broad daylight? Either they have mental issues or just want to get caught for shelter.” “I seriously suspect he’s intentionally seeking food and shelter.” “It’s tough out there, some people deliberately seek to be taken care of by the state.”

When the man was caught on the street, he repeatedly shouted in Mandarin with an accent, claiming diplomatic immunity and denying his Chinese identity. However, official reports revealed that the man was from Yunnan Province.
