The National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) recently held a chairperson’s meeting, and passed a decision to revoke the qualifications of Tang Yong, Dang Yanbao, and Li Minji as national CPPCC members. Tang Yong comes from the military and serves as the Deputy Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee of the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Communist Party, holding the rank of Major General. Typically, officials who have their CPPCC membership revoked are suspected of involvement in legal issues.
On March 26, the 34th Chairman’s meeting of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC was held in Beijing, where the decision to revoke the qualifications of Tang Yong, Dang Yanbao, and Li Minji as members of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC was deliberated and presented for approval by the 12th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.
Public records show that Tang Yong is a member of the National CPPCC from the Chinese Communist Party’s military, belonging to the “specially invited individuals” category of the CPPCC.
Tang Yong, born in 1967, formerly served as the Deputy Director of the Military Court of the Nanjing Military Region, the full-time Deputy Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Central Military Commission, Vice Political Commissar of the Armed Police Force in March 2023, and Vice Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee of the Central Military Commission in December of the same year, holding the rank of Major General.
Dang Yanbao is the Chairman of Ningxia Baofeng Group Co., Ltd., who has been dubbed as the “richest man in Ningxia.”
Li Minji previously served as the Party Secretary and Chairman of Huaxia Bank. His sudden resignation in January this year has attracted attention.
As of now, the specific reasons for revoking the CPPCC membership of the three individuals have not been publicly disclosed.
Generally, the revocation of CPPCC membership is often related to personal disciplinary and legal violations. For example, in April 2024, Tang Yijun, who was then the Chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial CPPCC, was suspected of serious disciplinary and legal violations, leading to an investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and subsequently having his national CPPCC membership revoked.
