The Taiwan Taichung City Police Department’s Second Division announced today (2nd) that police officers discovered online sales of “miniature firearms” from mainland China, suspected to be modified firearms. Authorities have seized 7 buyers with a total of 7 miniature firearms and have taken legal action against them.
Police officers from the Second Division of the Taichung City Police Department were conducting online patrol duties when they found the online sale of “miniature firearms,” suspected to be modified firearms that could be potentially exploited by criminals, leading to violent crimes and affecting public security.
After verifying the lethality of the firearms through evidence collection, the Taichung City police immediately launched a special operation to crack down on illegal firearms, resulting in the discovery of 7 individuals and the confiscation of 7 miniature firearms. All individuals have been referred to the district prosecutors for investigation under violations of the Firearms and Ammunition Control Act.
The Second Division of the Taichung City Police Department stated that, based on their investigation, these “miniature firearms” originated from mainland China and their metal structure and functionality fall within the category of “non-standard firearms” subject to regulation, providing clear evidence of illegality.
Chief Chou Chun-ming of the Second Division of the Taichung City Police Department emphasized that possession of non-standard firearms could result in a sentence of five years or more in prison, highlighting the severity of the offense. In addition to intensifying crackdown efforts, the division has requested the Criminal Investigation Bureau to notify major domestic online marketplaces to remove related products and prohibit their sale. They have also written to the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance to enhance customs inspections to prevent imports, while reminding the public not to purchase or possess such firearms to avoid falling afoul of the law.
