Mainland Chinese Actress Zhang Meng Goes to Hong Kong for C-Section, Plans to Confinement for 100 Days

Chinese actress Zhang Meng, 36 years old, tied the knot with South Korean actor Kim Eun-sung in 2022. She had previously tearfully revealed her diagnosis of anxiety due to failed pregnancy attempts. Recently, Zhang Meng posted a video on social media showing her and her husband visiting a postpartum care center. She announced that due to her advanced maternal age and planned cesarean section, she had decided to give birth in Hong Kong and then spend 100 days in a postpartum care center in Shenzhen, sparking discussions among netizens.

On March 30th, Zhang Meng shared updates about her pregnancy on social media. As both she and her South Korean actor husband Kim Eun-sung are Hong Kong residents, they had already made arrangements with a doctor in Hong Kong for the cesarean section. Before heading to Hong Kong for childbirth, they first visited a postpartum care center in Shenzhen after departing from Hangzhou.

In the video posted on social media, Zhang Meng explained that she planned to spend 100 days in postpartum care due to her advanced maternal age and the planned cesarean section, hoping to fully recuperate and regain her strength after childbirth. Earlier, she had revealed that at 35 weeks of pregnancy, she experienced contractions and the baby was in a breech position, adding challenges to the delivery process.

Zhang Meng’s postpartum care plan has attracted widespread attention. According to Chinese media reports, she chose to give birth in Hong Kong and stay at a luxury postpartum care center in Shenzhen. The services include a million yuan package, 56 days of professional care, and a 100-day companion nursing service, sparking discussions among netizens: some supported her decision, believing that older mothers needed more rest and care, while others expressed resignation that only the wealthy could afford such arrangements. Zhang Meng clarified that her postpartum care arrangement was based on her personal health needs and not a recommendation for others.

Zhang Meng is well-known to audiences for her roles in dramas such as “The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber” and “The Xia Family’s Three Thousand Gold.” On March 19, 2020, Kim Eun-sung officially announced their relationship with Zhang Meng: “I want to walk with you on sunny days and hold an umbrella for you on rainy days.” Zhang Meng responded by saying, “You are my man and also my little prince. Finally, I won’t have trouble opening bottle caps anymore.” On February 10, 2022, Zhang Meng announced their marriage on Weibo.
