Mainland China talent show judge Wu Zhenyu’s lively expression mocked by his son

China’s reality show “Actor Please Take Your Place 3” officially premiered recently, with a group of young actors undergoing tests from both the market and audience under the guidance of mentors. However, unlike the performers’ displays, Hong Kong artist and mentor, Wu Zhenyu, although more lenient in his critiques compared to the previous season, still stole the spotlight with his various “expressive faces.” This not only sparked discussions among netizens but also led to humorous remarks from his son, who teased that his father participates in variety shows because he likes to criticize people.

Wu Zhenyu, known for his harsh critiques in the previous season of “Actor Please Take Your Place 3”, although softer this season, still earned the title of “the walking facial expression supplier” for his uncontrolled expressions. For instance, during a performance by the young actor Zhang Jiayuan, who deviated from the script and delivered an off-target performance, Wu Zhenyu visibly showed impatience with expressions of speechlessness and disappointment. When asked about the actors’ performances, he pondered with a frown on his face, eventually ending with a hesitant response: “I don’t understand, I don’t feel much about it.”

Facing some awkward acting moments, Wu Zhenyu’s reactions entertained viewers even more: sometimes he closed his eyes, furrowed his brows, as if his mood was written all over his face.

Netizens not only laughed at his expressions but also took to Wu Zhenyu’s son, Wu Feiman’s, social media to inquire, “Are you spending too much money? Why is Wu Zhenyu participating in these types of variety shows?” This question led to Wu Feiman comically replying, “Could it be that he’s on the show because he likes to criticize people?” Following this, Wu Feiman even debunked rumors on his father’s social media platform, revealing that Wu Zhenyu spends more on clothes than his son’s tuition fees.

In fact, in 2014, Wu Zhenyu and his son, Wu Feiman, appeared on the mainland variety show “Where Are We Going, Dad? 2,” where their playful interactions garnered much love from the audience. Now at 16, Wu Feiman, since opening a Weibo account a few years ago, has engaged in humorous banter with netizens from time to time, earning him the title of “King of Comedy.”

Despite being nominated six times for the Best Actor award at the Golden Rooster Awards, Wu Zhenyu fell short each time. Afterwards, Wu Feiman jokingly referred to his father as the “Best Companion.”

Once, in a witty exchange with netizens, when asked if he would still participate in “Where Are We Going, Dad?”, Wu Feiman responded with, “It depends on whether my son agrees!” and when asked why he mentions Wu Zhenyu in every comment, he replied, “If I don’t promote him, nobody will watch, and then I won’t have food to eat!” Each response had netizens laughing out loud.
