Mainland spouses “Xiaowei” and “Enqi” faced a deadline to leave by March 31 due to their involvement in advocating for unification with China. Minister of the Interior of the Republic of China, Liu Shifang, stated that one of them has already booked a flight to prepare to leave, while the other is still hesitating. If the latter does not leave voluntarily, forced deportation will be implemented.
“Yaya” Liu Zhenya, “Xiaowei,” and “Enqi,” mainland spouses who were involved in promoting unification with China, had their family reunion residency permits revoked by the immigration agency and were banned from applying for family reunion residency for five years. Their long-term residency permits were also revoked, and they were given a deadline to leave. “Yaya” filed a court application to suspend the execution of the decision, but the request was rejected in the first instance. Following an appeal, she left Taiwan on March 25. The second-instance decision by the Supreme Administrative Court on the 27th upheld the appeal rejection.
The Internal Affairs Committee of the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China continued to review the “Enactment of Commemorative Days and Festivals Act” on March 31, with Minister of the Interior Liu Shifang in attendance. Prior to the meeting, Liu Shifang participated in a media interview and mentioned that based on the information obtained, one of the individuals has booked a flight, while the other, whose identity is somewhat special and has a good relationship with the Taiwan Affairs Office, was originally scheduled to depart but may encounter some variables, and the situation will be handled in accordance with regulations.
Liu Shifang pointed out that one of the mainland spouses has had a high frequency of communication with the Taiwan Affairs Office in Taiwan over a period of time, which she found “peculiar.” The individual has been indecisive on social media, expressing intentions to leave at one moment and to stay at another. The developments may have uncertainties, but are being closely monitored by the Ministry of the Interior.
When asked by the media whether “Xiaowei” or “Enqi” had not yet booked their flights, Liu Shifang stated that she could not confirm. According to the regulations of the immigration agency, “both individuals do not possess citizenship of our country, do not have identity documents, and are Chinese nationals. If Chinese nationals have their family reunion residency permits revoked, they are required to leave voluntarily within 10 days, or forced deportation will be enforced.”
Liu Shifang further mentioned that since the deadline had not yet arrived and both individuals have sought legal redress or administrative litigation through lawyers, it does not hinder the original administrative penalty from being carried out.
