Kentucky Two Dead, Over Ten Killed by Storms Across United States in a Week

In a tragic turn of events, the state of Kentucky in the United States faced devastating storms and floods, resulting in the loss of two lives and the closure of over 500 roads. Andy Beshear, the Governor of Kentucky, shared this distressing news on Sunday (April 6), as similar severe weather conditions have claimed the lives of more than a dozen people across several southern and midwestern states in the past week.

Governor Beshear took to the social media platform X to express the extent of the record-breaking floods that have engulfed the entire state of Kentucky. He mentioned that more than 500 roads have been closed due to the flooding, with river levels still expected to rise further. Governor Beshear solemnly stated, “We have already lost two lives.”

According to the police in the city of Frankfort, one of the deceased individuals was a 9-year-old boy. Last Friday morning, he was swept away by the floodwaters while walking to the school bus station.

Governor Beshear also added on Sunday that in the state capital of Frankfort, authorities have evacuated numerous households and imposed restrictions on water usage. Additionally, the state government offices will remain closed on Monday to cope with the aftermath of the natural disaster.

Over the past week, a deadly spring storm wreaked havoc across a vast region spanning from Texas to Ohio in the United States, bringing tornadoes and heavy rainfall to these areas.

As per data from the local health department, ten individuals lost their lives in Tennessee during this period. Apart from the two deaths announced by Governor Beshear on Sunday, reports from local media indicate that Missouri also recorded two fatalities, while Arkansas, Indiana, and Mississippi each reported one death.

A non-profit independent organization, “Climate Central,” which studies weather patterns, mentioned that a majority of the United States is facing increased rainfall and corresponding flood risks. The northern regions of the midwestern states and the Ohio River Valley are among the most severely affected areas.
