Jacky Cheung’s over a thousand concerts tour Responds to rumors of mounting debt from failed investments

Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung, who has held over 1,000 personal concert tours in his singing career, has recently been wildly rumored on mainland China’s internet to be desperately staging concerts due to failed investments and mounting debts, plunging him into financial crisis. However, on the evening of February 28th at a concert in Guangzhou, Jacky Cheung addressed the speculation publicly, stating that he does not owe any debts and that the reason he is putting so much effort into his concerts is to “make himself happy” and to let his fans hear him sing.

At 63 years old, Jacky Cheung completed his 218th concert in the “60+” series in Haikou, China on February 23rd, marking his 1,000th personal concert tour and making him the first Chinese singer to achieve this milestone. Despite his success, rumors of financial crisis have been circulating on the Chinese internet in recent years, alleging bankruptcy, significant debts, his wife Lo Mei-mei squandering a 2 billion fortune, and ongoing efforts to earn money to repay debts.

On February 28th, Jacky Cheung returned to Guangzhou for the “60+” concert tour. Originally set for six shows, due to overwhelming demand for tickets, an additional show was added on March 16th, bringing the total number of concerts in this tour, which started in June 2023, to almost 230. Jacky, who has never publicly addressed rumors before, reassured his fans on stage during the 1,001st concert: “I really don’t owe anyone any money.”

Speaking in Cantonese, he went on to say, “In fact, I have done more than 1,000 concerts. Many friends say, ‘You still don’t have enough money?’ I do, haha. My money is enough because many friends ask if what I am doing is a ‘big deal’ or if I owe a lot of debt. I want to clarify to everyone that I am someone who manages money frugally.” He emphasized that he does not engage in large investments, and there is no basis for the rumors of mounting debts.

Regarding the rumor that he has been wearing the same piece of clothing for over a decade, Jacky responded, “I want to tell everyone that many of my clothes are from over twenty years ago. The materials in clothes from twenty years ago are very good, and it also proves that I have maintained a good physique as clothes from twenty years ago still fit.” Demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence.

Jacky Cheung expressed, “Each of my concerts now is done for myself, just to make myself happy, and to allow more audiences to hear me sing.”

In 1987, Jacky Cheung’s first solo concert tour “87” started in Hong Kong’s Hung Hom area, and by the 10th tour in 2025, the total number of concerts reached 1,000, spanning 38 years and over 18 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas with performances in more than a hundred cities. Throughout his journey, Jacky Cheung has not only achieved remarkable success in the Chinese music industry but also witnessed the advancement of Chinese pop music onto the global stage.

Reflecting on the concert in Haikou before the Guangzhou concert, Jacky Cheung remarked, “What does 1,000 concerts mean to me? It means I have spent over 3,000 hours on this stage in the past 40 years.”

He thanked every fan who has continuously supported him, stating, “Without all of you, I wouldn’t be able to stand on this stage doing what I love the most. These 40 years and these 1,000 concerts are something that would not have been possible without you all.”
