Inner Mongolia’s corrupt official Li Jianping sentenced to death for involvement in over 3 billion yuan corruption case.

Under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, corruption in the officialdom is shocking. On December 17, Li Jianping, a corrupt official from Inner Mongolia involved in a case amounting to over 3 billion yuan, was sentenced to death. The news quickly made its way to the top trending topics, sparking discussions.

On September 7, 2022, the Xing’an League Intermediate People’s Court in Inner Mongolia sentenced Li Jianping to death for crimes including corruption, accepting bribes, embezzlement of public funds, and indulging in criminal activities of organized crime. Li Jianping’s appeal was rejected by the Inner Mongolia High People’s Court on August 22, 2024, upholding the original verdict.

After a review by the Supreme People’s Court of the Chinese Communist Party, it was confirmed that Li Jianping had illegally embezzled over 1.437 billion yuan of funds from state-owned companies through deception, with over 289 million yuan yet to be recovered. He also received illegal gains totaling over 577 million yuan for the benefit of others and embezzled over 1.055 billion yuan of public funds, with over 404 million yuan still outstanding before the case was uncovered. Additionally, Li Jianping allowed illegal activities by an organized crime group led by Zhao Wenyuan, who has already been sentenced.

Li Jianping was found guilty of corruption, accepting bribes, embezzlement of public funds, and indulging in criminal activities of organized crime.

On December 17th of this year, the Xing’an League Intermediate People’s Court pronounced the death penalty for Li Jianping.

Born in May 1960 in Bazhou, Hebei, Li Jianping had worked exclusively in Inner Mongolia, holding positions such as member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Water Affairs Bureau in Hohhot City, Chairman of Chunhua Water Company, Party Secretary, and Director of the Water Affairs Bureau in Hohhot City, and Party Committee Secretary of the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Hohhot City.

In September 2018, at the age of 58, Li Jianping fell from power and was doubly disciplined in August 2019.

From his downfall to being doubly disciplined, Li Jianping, a leading official, did not attract much attention from the public.

It wasn’t until February 27, 2021, when the website of the Chinese Communist Party Central Commission for Discipline Inspection revealed that during Li Jianping’s tenure as Party Committee Secretary of the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Hohhot City, he treated the area as his “personal fiefdom,” viewing subordinate enterprises as his “cash cow” and “ATM,” routinely accepting bribes in the millions, tens of millions, and even billions, with the total amount involved exceeding 3 billion yuan. This news shocked the entire nation.

After the public announcement of Li Jianping’s execution, the news quickly climbed to the top trending topics, with many netizens expressing that a high-ranking corrupt official in the Chinese Communist Party had received the punishment he deserved.
