On July 10th, shocking new footage was leaked on Instagram regarding the drunk driving incident that occurred on June 28th when a driver crashed into a Chinese-owned nail salon in Suffolk County, Long Island, killing 4 people and injuring 9. The video shows the vehicle speeding out of control from the opposite side of a T-intersection, crossing over the curb, through the parking lot, and into the nail salon.
A person exiting a nearby store narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle as it flew past him, only steps away. Despite witnessing the car crashing into the shop and hearing screams, he showed no reaction and calmly got into his own Jeep and drove off. Netizens criticized his cold-blooded reaction.
The nail salon, Hawaii Nail & Spa, located in Deer Park, Long Island, is positioned next to an outdoor parking lot facing a T-intersection. The video footage captures the vehicle racing from the street directly in front of the nail salon at high speed. The driver seemed oblivious as the car crossed the intersection, mounted the curb, and broke into the parking lot. With no parked cars blocking the path, the out-of-control vehicle crashed into the nail salon facing the T-intersection.
The impact produced a loud noise and screams from inside the salon, prompting people from nearby shops to come out and witness the scene. The man who witnessed the vehicle narrowly miss him and crash into the store took a few steps back in shock but then proceeded to nonchalantly get into a Jeep without looking back.
Netizens expressed discontent with the man’s indifference, criticizing his cold-blooded demeanor as saddening. Some also highlighted the terrifying consequences of drunk driving witnessed in the video. The 64-year-old driver, Steven Schwally, admitted to consuming 18 beers the day before the accident.
Among the victims of the tragic incident were three individuals of Chinese descent: Jiancai Chen, the 37-year-old owner of the nail salon (residing in Bayside), Yan Xu, a 41-year-old female employee (residing in Flushing), and Meizi Zhang, a 50-year-old female employee (residing in Flushing). Another victim was Emilia Rennhack, a 30-year-old off-duty officer from the 102nd Precinct, who had gotten married just last September and was getting her nails done for a wedding she was attending that evening.
