How American-born children can apply for a Taiwanese passport: Orange County Consular Affairs Seminar

The Orange County Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce held a consular affairs seminar at the Orange Center in Southern California on the afternoon of April 21st. The event aimed to enhance the understanding of Taiwanese immigrants in the area on applying for Republic of China passports, document certifications, and related regulations regarding domicile, settlement, and military service, among others. The consulate team from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles was invited to give presentations, which received a warm response from the community.

Led by Director Ji Qin-yao of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, the consular affairs team discussed topics such as “How to Apply for Taiwanese Passports for U.S.-Born Children,” providing briefings on relevant services and answering various questions. The topics covered included how overseas-born Taiwanese citizens can apply for passports, passport renewal procedures, application for overseas residency verification, obtaining birth and marriage certificates, reminders for document certification application, application for permits for Taiwanese citizens without household registration to return to Taiwan and apply for residency, procedures for Taiwanese nationals marrying Mainland Chinese spouses to return to Taiwan for family reunification and marriage registration, as well as how overseas Taiwanese males can apply for entry and exit to Taiwan.

Nearly two hundred members of the community attended the seminar, actively participating in the question-and-answer session. The Orange Center also live-streamed the event on Facebook, allowing overseas Taiwanese who could not attend in person to access consular-related information simultaneously.

President Chen Qi-geng of the Orange County Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce expressed gratitude for the dedication of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and the Overseas Community Center to serving the immigrant community. Center Director Xiao Bei-ru explained the application process for the Overseas Compatriot Card (i-Card) and promoted discounts at overseas contracted stores, while introducing various services offered by the Overseas Community Center to the attendees, including the Taiwan Mandarin Learning Center (TCML), Overseas Youth Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA-OC), Traditional Chinese textbooks, and business activities, encouraging everyone to participate and support actively.

The consular affairs team from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office included Director Ji Qin-yao, Consular Affairs Section Chief Zheng Ru-hui, Deputy Consul General Tseng Yu-qi in charge of passport services, Secretary Chen Qing-ru in charge of document certification services, and Secretary Li Yu-ling in charge of immigration affairs.
