On May 15th, a high school in Nanning, Guangxi, was hit by a violent incident where a student stabbed classmates before committing suicide by jumping off a building. According to parents of the school, the incident was believed to be a result of a vendetta.
The following day, on May 16th, the Jiangnan Sub-bureau of Nanning Public Security Bureau reported that around 6 p.m. on May 15th, an incident of harm occurred at a school where three injured individuals were sent for medical treatment. The suspect involved in the incident succumbed to injuries despite rescue efforts, while the two other victims were reported to be out of danger. Fortunately, there were no other casualties reported at the scene.
Although the report did not disclose the name of the school, information provided by a parent revealed that the school in question was the 36th Middle School in Nanning, located in the Jiangnan campus.
Within the parent group, there were discussions likening the incident to previous tragedies. Some parents mentioned that four individuals were allegedly “killed”, while others noted that only the student responsible for the attack had died.
Based on information shared in the parent group and reposted by the Nanning Public Security Bureau that same evening, the incident took place in the student dormitories of the 36th Middle School on Dingjin Road in the Jiangnan district of Nanning. The suspect, Huang Jun (18 years old, a student in Class 2205 of the school), used a sharp weapon to harm Fang Ning (18 years old, from Class 2214) in dormitory 210 of building 7, then proceeded to injure Zhuo Kaikai (17 years old, from Class 2204) in dormitory 507 of the same building. Following the assaults on the two classmates, Huang Jun tragically fell to his death from the fifth floor of dormitory 9. Fortunately, both victims are now in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
The parent mentioned that the root cause of the incident was a vendetta, as the perpetrator was allegedly bullied by the two victims. Disturbing photos shared within the parent group showed significant bloodstains at the dormitory entrance, painting a grim picture of the scene.
Recent years have seen a number of violent incidents on Chinese school campuses. On April 24th, Liaoning Railway Vocational and Technical College in Jinzhou, Liaoning, experienced an attack where six students in a dormitory were assaulted. Among them, three died on the spot, one succumbed to injuries despite rescue efforts, and the remaining two narrowly escaped danger. Conflicting reports online suggest either three dead and three injured. Rumors circulating online speculate that the incident was related to bullying on campus.
In November 2024, Wuxi Institute of Technology in Yixing, Jiangsu, was the site of a knife attack resulting in eight deaths and 17 injuries. The perpetrator carried out the violence out of frustration over failing exams, not obtaining a graduation certificate, and discontent over internship remuneration.
Public records indicate that Nanning No. 36 Middle School is a model high school in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region with campuses in Hengyang and Jiangnan, comprising 39 classes and around 2,000 students.
