“Heroic ‘Brother Knife’ from Zhengzhou Dies at 39 Due to Illness Amidst Heavy Rainstorm”

On March 3rd, 39-year-old Li Kunpeng, also known as “Chef Knife Brother,” from Zhengzhou, Henan, passed away suddenly due to a serious illness.

In the morning of March 3rd, the social media account of Li Kunpeng posted an obituary stating that he passed away at 1:40 am on the 3rd due to unsuccessful rescue efforts, at the age of 39.

On March 2nd, Li Kunpeng’s family informed the Beijing News that the day before, doctors had informed them that Li Kunpeng had suffered brain death, developed pericardial effusion, and experienced a decline in various bodily functions, “He has been in the ICU for rescue but did not wake up, and did not say a word.”

The memorial service for Li Kunpeng was held at Zhengzhou Funeral Home on the morning of March 3rd. In the afternoon, his ashes were brought back to his hometown in Taikang, Henan, for burial.

Li Kunpeng, a chef, had no underlying health conditions and no abnormalities in his daily life. In the early hours of February 12th, after finishing his night shift, he suddenly felt chest tightness, shortness of breath, and chest pain, and then fell into a coma before being rushed to the intensive care unit, where he was preliminarily diagnosed with sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest.

Li Kunpeng’s wife, Zhao Qiujia, told Li Zhi News that during the 20 days of hospitalization and rescue efforts, Li Kunpeng remained in a coma. Earlier, doctors had informed the family that due to prolonged lack of oxygen in Li Kunpeng’s brain, the situation was not optimistic.

The diagnostic report from the Third People’s Hospital of Henan Province shows that Li Kunpeng suffered sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest, with causes pending investigation; successful resuscitation after cardiac arrest; cerebral ischemia and hypoxia; acute respiratory failure; pneumonia; and acute heart failure, among others.

On July 20, 2021, Zhengzhou, Henan, was hit by severe rainfall. Li Kunpeng once used a kitchen knife to rescue three people trapped in a car, which earned him the nickname “Chef Knife Brother” among netizens.

Since the beginning of this year, mainland China has been continuously hit by the news of sudden death among young and middle-aged individuals.

On February 25, Chinese female internet celebrity “Cat You You” passed away at the age of 24 due to illness.

In February, Liu Tingfang, former member of the Shizuishan City Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, passed away at the age of 60, with the cause of death unknown.

On February 19, the news of the recent death of 39-year-old Ph.D. graduate Lou Huayong from Guizhou Medical University has sparked attention. Lou Huayong’s family confirmed his death but did not disclose the specific cause of death.
