Hangzhou Metro Entrance Criticized as Resembling a Coffin, Tops Hot Search.

After the overnight removal of the “coffin subway entrance” in Guangzhou, controversy has once again erupted over the G entrance of Hangzhou Chuangjing Road subway station due to its similar appearance. On April 18, the related topic hit the hot search list.

A viral video shows the subway station exit with a blue arched structure with protruding edges above. Criticisms flooded in, with netizens calling it “ominous”, questioning how it passed inspection, and sarcastically remarking “makes you down-to-earth, not welcomed by the underworld.”

According to a report by Red News, the architecture in the video is the G entrance of Hangzhou Chuangjing Road subway station, located inside the Yuhang Central Park, which opened on September 22, 2022.

On April 17, staff from Hangzhou Metro Group responded, stating that the design incorporates technology and a modern aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the image of a “wormhole.”

The staff member also mentioned that the design and construction of the entrance have undergone professional evaluation and argumentation. Regarding any adjustments in the future, Hangzhou Metro Group will evaluate and consider based on the actual situation.

Many netizens believe that action should be taken swiftly as in Guangzhou, and designs should align with public aesthetics and cultural traditions. They commented, “Experts should first be ordinary people before being professionals. Why is there such a stark difference in opinion from regular people’s views?”

“This is not ‘wormhole’ crossing, it’s a cycle of life and death.” “What were they thinking with this design?” “Could it be the same designer as in Guangzhou? All designers from the netherworld!”

Some netizens jokingly stated, “Outer coffin magnanimous, inside farewell luxurious, showcasing the style of the deceased.”

On April 18, the topic of “Hangzhou Metro responds to subway entrance being criticized as a coffin” surged on the hot search list.

In January this year, the renovated design of the D entrance of Huadiwan Station in Guangzhou sparked a public outcry for its striking resemblance to a “coffin,” eventually leading the metro company to dismantle the controversial part of the structure overnight. Those involved were also dealt with, and the design company’s cooperation was terminated.
