The Northern California Chinese Alumni Association Federation held its annual grand event on the evening of February 8th. The event included a ceremony for the transition of the new and outgoing presidents, attracting over 500 alumni and guests to celebrate together, exuding joy and a sense of heritage.
Invited guests included Director Lai Mingqi from the Taiwan Affairs Office in San Francisco, Director Zhuang Yashu from the Overseas Chinese Education Center in the Bay Area, and Dong Jiling, CEO of the National Asian American Chamber of Commerce (National ACE), as well as several business leaders, overseas Chinese representatives, and political elites.
The opening ceremony of the event focused on fundraising for relief efforts for the wildfires in Southern California, calling on attendees to contribute to the charitable cause. Following this, a carefully choreographed opening performance was presented by the well-known dance director, Teacher Peng Leyun, involving federation executives, board members, and volunteers showcasing vitality and elegance to welcome guests.
After the introductions of the distinguished guests, former Federation President Cai Hongkai delivered a speech, expressing gratitude for the support of alumni and all sectors, and expressing a vision for the federation to continue expanding its alumni network and deepening community influence.
Director Lai Mingqi delivered a humorous speech, acknowledging the contributions of former President Cai and highlighting his dedication and passion. He congratulated the new president, Xi Zaoxun, praising his rich experience and leadership abilities, expressing anticipation for the federation’s future achievements under his guidance.
Director Zhuang Yashu emphasized the significance of the federation as an important overseas Chinese organization in Northern California, dedicated to uniting alumni from various schools and promoting overseas Chinese affairs, playing an indispensable role over the years. Director Zhuang expressed gratitude to former President Cai for his long-term support in overseas Chinese affairs, expressed high hopes for Xi Zaoxun’s leadership, believing that the federation will continue to thrive and grow based on its existing foundation, concluding with Lunar New Year blessings.
Former President Cai presented certificates of appreciation to the 41st board members, followed by a group performance of “Joyful Carnival” by all board members, creating a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere at the event.
During the transition ceremony, the 34th president, Song Zhen, oversaw the handover process, witnessing the exchange of responsibilities between the new and outgoing presidents, and taking a group picture with past presidents and all board members of the 41st term.
Director Lai Mingqi and Director Zhuang Yashu presented congratulatory certificates, and new President Xi Zaoxun delivered his inaugural speech, thanking the former president and team for their dedication and efforts, and introducing the new core team members: Vice President Huo Qinglai, Secretary Wei Ling, and Treasurer Wu Guoting. He pledged to uphold the federation’s excellent traditions and drive innovation to provide more valuable activities for alumni.
Following the handover ceremony, the highlight of the event was a keynote speech by CEO Dong Jiling, titled “Opening the Door to Opportunities.” Dong encouraged the younger generation through her own experiences, highlighting the outstanding achievements of Asian communities in various fields through hard work and abilities. She emphasized the importance of nurturing Asian leaders and introduced the training programs of the International Leaders Fund, aiming to attract and assist more outstanding young Asians to enter mainstream society and exert leadership and influence.
She urged Asian communities to unite and advocate for their rights, create more opportunities for future generations, and ensure a brighter future in America.
Following the speech, there were several exciting performances, including those by the Everlasting Love Band and the California Line Dance Association, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event. The raffle segment heightened the excitement, with lucky alumni winning prizes such as tickets from China Airlines and EVA Air, cash prizes, and high-end electronic products, creating surprises and continuous applause, marking a successful conclusion to the annual event. The event received enthusiastic feedback, with tickets nearly sold out. Some of the surplus will be donated to assist in the relief efforts for the wildfires in Southern California, showcasing the federation’s social responsibility.
