Georgia hosts five-day, five-night basketball game, setting a world record.

In a recent initiative led by a non-profit organization in Atlanta, Georgia, the capital of the United States, a group of 24 players participated in a basketball marathon lasting 121 hours and 3 minutes, setting a new Guinness World Record.

The organization, Men Opposing Sex Trafficking (MOST), divided the players into two teams to take on the challenge of breaking the Guinness World Record. On March 21st, with a final score of 13,096 to 12,972, they successfully surpassed the previous record.

Starting from March 16th, the players engaged in the basketball marathon within a school gym, where they spent nearly all their time for 5 days, even eating and sleeping on-site, with only 5-minute bathroom breaks allowed every two hours.

During the 5-day event, the players took turns on the court without any breaks or halftime rest. According to Guinness World Record rules, each team must have a minimum of 5 players on the court at all times, and too many fouls could disqualify a player. Only one person had to exit the game due to an injury.

This event follows MOST’s previous record-breaking achievement in 2024 for the longest softball game, also lasting 121 hours. The purpose of these events is to raise national support for the organization.

The basketball marathon not only aimed at setting a world record but also at fundraising and raising awareness for the organization’s mission, which is to encourage men to stand up against sex trafficking.

When the Guinness World Record officials presented the certification to the players, cheers erupted on the scene. Despite their fatigue, the players were in high spirits.

Player Candler McBrayer mentioned that the most challenging part of the event for him was the necessity for rest after the game. He described the post-game recovery process as requiring careful rest to soothe sore muscles and warm up stiff joints, a process that brought its share of pain.

In addition to the participating players, the organization had a supporting team ensuring that players had food and essential items within reach, along with witnesses, referees, and scorekeepers.

Established in 2022, MOST aims to educate, encourage, and equip men to help combat sex trafficking. The organization’s members now include data analysts and an interception team composed of former military and law enforcement professionals who assist in nationwide sting operations and crime prevention.
