A woman in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, was cooking at home recently when a gas explosion occurred, causing her to suffer burns on 60-90% of her body. Her son, who is less than three years old, was blasted from the kitchen doorway to the living room, with his hair also burnt. As a mother, the woman endured intense pain to quickly carry her son to a safe area, a moment that touched many netizens.
The video footage shows the woman cooking in the kitchen as usual when a sudden explosion shook the house, the door flying off as flames shot out from the entrance. The child happened to be near the kitchen door and was blown into the living room.
The mother screamed as she rushed out of the kitchen, her body covered in extensive burns, but she first checked on her son’s condition, enduring the intense pain to try to make an emergency call for help.
According to the woman’s husband, Mr. Xu, who spoke to the media, he was at work when the incident happened. Upon receiving his wife’s call, he quickly rushed home to find their son’s hair burnt but fortunately not seriously injured. However, his wife suffered burns on 60-90% of her body, with estimated medical expenses of around 500,000 yuan, a substantial amount that adds great pressure to their modest-income family.
Mr. Xu mentioned, “As my wife lay in the ambulance, she was still saying to take good care of our child.”
The netizens in the comments section are actively discussing the news.
Many netizens expressed their emotions, stating that they were moved, and it truly shows that “women are inherently strong, especially when it comes to being mothers”, displaying the greatness of maternal love at that moment.
The unfortunate plight of this woman serves as a reminder to the public that accidents and dangers can happen at any time in life, emphasizing the importance of staying vigilant.
As described in the video, the woman tried to light the gas stove several times without success, causing a buildup of gas in the air. When ignited, it immediately led to an explosion. Perhaps allowing a moment for the gas to disperse before attempting to light it could have prevented the incident.
Many netizens are debating whether it is better to cook using electricity or gas in the kitchen at home.
One netizen summarized that both methods have their pros and cons: Electric cooking is environmentally friendly, as it doesn’t produce exhaust emissions, maintaining better kitchen environment and air quality. It is relatively straightforward to operate, with precise temperature control and safety as it’s less prone to leaks and other dangerous situations.
However, one drawback is limited power, which may not suffice for dishes requiring high heat for quick cooking, and in case of a power outage, it becomes unusable.
On the other hand, gas cooking offers high heat output, suitable for techniques like stir-frying, which helps to retain food texture and nutrients better. It has stable prices and might be more cost-effective in some areas.
But the disadvantages include certain safety hazards, like gas leaks that could lead to explosions or poisoning risks. The combustion generates waste gas affecting the kitchen environment. In cases of gas explosion incidents, ending up with extensive burns is extremely unfortunate.
