G7 Reaffirms the Importance of Peace in the Taiwan Strait; Taiwan’s Foreign Minister: It is an International Consensus.

At the G7 summit held in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada from the 15th to the 17th, the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait was reiterated in the Chair’s Summary released after the meeting. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Joseph Wu, expressed his sincere gratitude for this stance and noted that safeguarding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is now an international consensus.

The Chair’s Summary underscored the continued serious concerns of G7 member countries regarding China’s actions that destabilize the East China Sea and the South China Sea, as well as the significance of upholding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. It reiterated the G7 members’ commitment to the rules-based, free, and open Indo-Pacific region.

Furthermore, the G7 leaders also expressed concerns about China’s comprehensive non-market policies and practices that lead to market distortion and overcapacity. Minister Joseph Wu thanked the G7 members for once again expressing support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait following a previous joint statement by foreign ministers, highlighting that protecting peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is now an international consensus.

Minister Wu emphasized that maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait is crucial to global security and prosperity. As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue to collaborate with the global community to defend freedom and openness in the Indo-Pacific region.
