Fucha Listed as “Major Security Risk” by the CCP, Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council Responds

Taiwanese Eight Banners Culture Chief Editor Fucha (Li Yanhe) and activist Yang Zhiyuan were publicly mentioned by the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Chinese Communist Party, Miao Shengming, for significant security cases. The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China stated that the two have been used as emblematic propaganda cases, with Yang Zhiyuan already sentenced and Fucha likely facing a similar fate.

The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China held a regular press conference on the 27th. When asked about the cases of Yang Zhiyuan and Fucha mentioned by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Chinese Communist Party on the 16th, the council was inquired about its assessment of the situation of these two individuals.

Vice Chairman and spokesperson of the Republic of China, Liang Wenjie, stated that based on the news released by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Chinese Communist Party, Yang Zhiyuan and Fucha have been regarded as emblematic cases in propaganda. Yang Zhiyuan has already been sentenced, and following the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda approach, it is estimated that Fucha may also face sentencing.

Liang Wenjie mentioned that regarding the progress of the cases of these two individuals, the government will continue to monitor the information but will respect the opinions of the families regarding specific details. Currently, there is no new information available for public disclosure.

Deputy Chief Prosecutor Miao Shengming of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Chinese Communist Party stated on the 26th that the prosecutor’s office lawfully punishes the crimes related to “Taiwan independence” stubborn elements who attempt to divide the country. “The Supreme Procuratorate guides local procuratorial organs to handle major security cases related to Yang Zhiyuan’s crime of splitting the country, as well as Li Yanhe’s case of inciting separatism,” he added.

Taiwanese activist and vice chairman of the Taiwan National Party, Yang Zhiyuan, was arrested by the Chinese Communist Party in August 2022 for engaging in “Taiwan independence separatist activities.” Following the announcement of the “22 Punishments for Separatists” by the Chinese Communist Party, Yang Zhiyuan was convicted of crimes of attempting to split the country as a “Taiwan independence leader” and was sentenced to 9 years by the Wenzhou court.

Fucha has obtained Republic of China identification and went to China in March 2023 to renounce Chinese nationality procedures but was detained by the Chinese national security units in Shanghai and has been detained there ever since.

Chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council, Qiu Chuizheng, recently pointed out that from January of last year to the present, a total of 65 petition cases have been received, including 52 Taiwanese individuals who have gone missing or are suspected of being detained after going to mainland China.

Japanese veteran media personnel, Akio Yabeta, stated that among the 52 individuals mentioned by Qiu Chuizheng, it does not yet include his close friend, Fucha, the chief editor of Eight Banners Culture Publishing House. Fucha “disappeared” in Shanghai in March 2023. He warned that the number of Taiwanese people who have “disappeared” in mainland China is likely higher than this figure, emphasizing the risks of going to China even if one considers themselves law-abiding citizens.
