Former Vice Governor of Yunnan Province, Li Shisong, expelled from Party and transferred to judiciary.

After half a year of investigation, former Vice Governor of Yunnan Province, Li Shisong, has been expelled from the Communist Party and dismissed from public office. He has also been referred to judicial authorities. The qualifications of 20 national representatives and representatives of the 11th Party Congress of Yunnan Province have been terminated as well.

On December 17, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Communist Party of China announced that, with the approval of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, an investigation has been launched into serious disciplinary and legal violations committed by Li Shisong, a former member of the 20th Central Committee alternate member and former member of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, as well as former Vice Governor of the province.

According to the official report, Li Shisong has obstructed organizational inspections, frequented private clubs, accepted banquets that could influence the impartial execution of official duties, misused vehicles, helped others to obtain promotions improperly, received gifts and money, participated in travel arrangements that could influence the impartial execution of official duties, turned a blind eye to statistical fraud, intervened in judicial processes improperly, engaged in hedonism, ethical degradation, abused his authority to benefit others in project contracting and business operations, and accepted large sums of money.

Li Shisong has been expelled from the Party, removed from public office, and handed over to judicial authorities. His qualifications as a representative of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the 11th Party Congress of Yunnan Province have been revoked.

Li Shisong is the 36th senior official to fall from grace this year and the third “tiger” in Yunnan Province to do so since the 20th Party Congress. He was placed under investigation while in office on June 25. His last public appearance was on May 13. Subsequently, Li Shisong was absent from several important meetings and events in the province. By June, the news of his investigation had spread widely on mainland Chinese social media platforms.

Aged 55, Li Shisong, a native of Yunlong County in Yunnan, had a long career in the province, serving as Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Qujing City, Deputy Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, Executive Vice Governor of the province, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee among other positions.
