Former Deputy Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Wang Yixin, who fell from grace 13 months ago, faced the first trial of his bribery case, with allegations of accepting over 1.29 billion Chinese Yuan in bribes.
On January 15th, the Intermediate People’s Court in Heze City, Shandong Province, publicly conducted the first trial of Wang Yixin, former member of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee, former Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Government Party Group, and former Deputy Governor, on charges of bribery.
According to the indictment by the Heze City Prosecutor’s Office, Wang Yixin allegedly used his positions as Director of Hainan Provincial Agricultural Reclamation Bureau, General Manager of Hainan Provincial Agricultural Reclamation Corporation, Chairman of Hainan Provincial Agricultural Reclamation Group Limited, and Deputy Governor of Shanxi Province from July 2008 to October 2020 to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in business contracting, land development, and job promotions. From May 2005 to the second half of 2023, Wang Yixin allegedly accepted bribes directly or through others amounting to over 1.29 billion Yuan. The prosecution has requested Wang Yixin to be held criminally responsible for the bribery charges.
On December 8, 2023, Wang Yixin was officially under investigation, and in June 2024, he was subjected to disciplinary action known as “double designation” and referred to judicial authorities. In November of the same year, he was formally charged.
According to the “double designation” report, Wang Yixin was found to have associated with political fraudsters, concealed his family’s real estate situation, engaged in irregular selection and appointment of cadres, and received bribes. He was also accused of using his power for personal gain, engaging in corrupt practices, and accepting large sums of money through power-for-money transactions.
Public information indicates that Wang Yixin was born in December 1965 in Yingshan, Hubei Province. He graduated from Wuhan University in 1987 and held various positions such as Director of the Editorial Department, Director of the Press Department, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief at China Offshore Oil Corporation.
From 1987 to 2003, Wang Yixin worked in the China Offshore Oil System, holding positions such as Director of the Editorial Department and Press Department at China Offshore Oil Corporation, as well as Director of the Office of China Offshore Oil Corporation. In 2004, he was appointed Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Research Office of the Hainan Provincial Government. In 2007, he became the Director and Party Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Agricultural Reclamation Bureau, controlling vast land and rubber resources in Hainan.
In 2013, Wang Yixin was transferred to Deputy Governor of Shanxi Province and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. In December 2021, he was transferred to Heilongjiang Province as Deputy Governor, and in March 2022, he became a member of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee.
