Former Vice General Manager of CNOOC, Yuan Guangyu, Under Investigation After Retiring for Over 5 Years

Former party member and deputy general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation Limited, Yuan Guangyu, is under investigation.

According to the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission, Yuan Guangyu, who retired five years and five months ago, is being investigated for serious violations of discipline and law.

Yuan Guangyu, 65 years old this year, joined CNOOC in 1982. He has served in various positions including deputy manager of Bohai Oil Drilling Company, deputy general manager of North China Oil Drilling Company, deputy manager of the Operations Department of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, general manager and party committee secretary of North China Oil Drilling Company, and more.

In November 2006, he was promoted to assistant general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, and in February 2009, he became the executive vice president. In April 2013, Yuan Guangyu concurrently served as director and deputy party secretary of the Bohai Oil Management Bureau of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, party secretary, general manager and party committee secretary of the Tianjin Branch of CNOOC (China) Limited.

In June 2016, Yuan Guangyu was appointed as the president of China National Offshore Oil Corporation Limited, and the following month he became the deputy general manager and party member of China National Offshore Oil Corporation. In September 2019, he retired upon reaching retirement age.
