Former Head of Chinese Communist Party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in Charge of Organization Department, Li Gang, Expelled.

Former Head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Team of the Central Organization Department of the CCP, Li Gang, has been expelled from the party and transferred to judicial authorities. He was taken down from his position half a year ago.

On April 7th (Monday), the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CCP announced that Li Gang, former head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Team of the Central Organization Department, and Chen Xiaobo, former Deputy Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and former Deputy Director of the Provincial Supervisory Commission, have been expelled from the party and disqualified as delegates to the 20th National Congress, and were transferred to judicial authorities.

According to the announcement, Li Gang engaged in speculative activities, associated with political fraudsters, resisted investigation, accepted banquets that could affect the impartial execution of official duties, failed to report personal matters in accordance with regulations, manipulated the selection and appointment of cadres for personal gain, engaged in profit-making activities in violation of regulations, and used public power as a tool to seek personal gain, accepting large sums of money illegally while facilitating others for profit in enterprises management, project contracting, job adjustments, and other areas.

Public records show that Li Gang was born in July 1965 in Dayi, Sichuan, and has served as Director of the Sichuan Province Investment Promotion Bureau, Secretary of the Bazhong Municipal Committee, Director of the Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and Deputy Governor of Sichuan Province. In 2021, he became a member of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Committee and Minister of the Organization Department.

In November 2022, Li Gang published a signed article in the CCP’s “Organizational Staff Report,” expressing political loyalty to the party’s top leadership. In September 2023, Li Gang took up a post in Beijing. On October 20 of the same year, the CCP held a national civil servant work symposium in Beijing. According to CCTV footage, Li Gang was seated between the Deputy Minister of the Central Organization Department Huang Jianfa and the Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Political and Legal Committee Sun Xiaofang, occupying a seat among the seats of central government agencies.

In January 2024, official announcements revealed that Li Gang had been appointed as Head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Team of the Central Organization Department of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Supervisory Commission. On September 30 of the same year, Li Gang was officially taken down from his position, only serving for 9 months since his appointment.
