Former Deputy Secretary of the Xining Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Wang Shanquan, has been expelled from the party and dismissed from public office, and has been transferred to judicial authorities. Wang Shanquan fell from grace in May of this year, less than a year after his promotion.
According to the report released by the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission of Qinghai Province on November 11th, after a thorough investigation by the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission of Qinghai Province, serious violations of discipline and law by Wang Shanquan, former member, standing committee member, and deputy secretary of the Xining Municipal Committee, have been identified.
The report states that Wang Shanquan misplaced his political achievements, neglected his party leadership responsibilities, deliberately resisted organizational inspections, indulged in pleasure-seeking, accepted gifts in violation of regulations, participated in private entrepreneurs’ travel arrangements, and received “nanny-style” services. He concealed and failed to report personal matters, provided assistance to others in exchange for material benefits, and treated public authority as a tool to illicitly gain personal benefits. He engaged in power-for-money transactions, exploited his position for personal gain in project contracting, and illegally accepted substantial amounts of money.
Wang Shanquan’s expulsion from the party and removal from public office, as well as his transfer to judicial authorities, signify the severity of the misconduct.
On May 16th of this year, Wang Shanquan was removed from his position.
Public records show that Wang Shanquan was born in July 1968 and has long worked in Qinghai Province, holding positions such as Deputy Director of the Qinghai Province Administration of Work Safety.
In 2015, Wang Shanquan was transferred to the position of Deputy Governor of Guoluo Prefecture in Qinghai Province; in June 2018, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Geermu Municipal Committee and Acting Mayor of the City. In September of the same year, he was officially promoted to the rank of Level 1 Inspector.
In August 2023, Wang Shanquan was appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Xining Municipal Committee, a position he held until his fall from grace on May 16th of this year, a tenure of less than a year.
