Former Deputy Director of National Medical Products Administration Chen Shifei investigated after leaving office for two and a half years.

The former party member and deputy director of the China National Medical Products Administration, Chen Shifei, has been officially announced to have fallen from power.

According to a statement released on February 26 by the website of the Chinese Communist Party’s Discipline and Inspection Commission, Chen Shifei is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervision Commission.

Public records show that Chen Shifei, 63 years old this year, is from Tiantai, Zhejiang Province. He has worked in the Zhejiang drug supervision system for many years, having held positions such as Deputy Director of the Science and Quality Division of the Zhejiang Provincial Medical Products Administration, Deputy Director of the Drug Registration Division, Assistant Director (on duty) of the Ningbo City Medical Products Administration (Drug Supervision and Administration Bureau), Director and Party Secretary of the Zhejiang Food and Drug Administration, and Director of the Zhejiang Food Safety Office.

In September 2018, Chen Shifei was transferred to the position of deputy director of the National Medical Products Administration. In August 2022, Chen Shifei was relieved of his duties as deputy director of the National Medical Products Administration.

With this, Chen Shifei becomes the seventh senior official to be investigated this year. The six officials previously investigated include Zhang Tianfeng, Qizhala, Zhou Xi’an, Liu Weidong, Wang Zhonghe, and Jiang Chaoliang.
