Foreign Spouse Asia’s Residency in Taiwan Revoked, Immigration Agency: Departure Required within Time Limit

The Immigration Department of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announced today (15th) that a Chinese mainland spouse surnamed Liu has created a channel under the name “Yaya in Taiwan”, openly advocating for the Chinese Communist Party to unify Taiwan by force, among other statements. The Immigration Department has revoked her residence permit for family reunion in Taiwan in accordance with the law, and has requested her to leave the country within a specified period.

Yaya Liu Zhenya, a Chinese mainland spouse, established the “Yaya in Taiwan” channel on the YouTube platform, promoting ideas such as “Taiwan is an inseparable part of China,” “Cross-strait unification is the general trend,” and spreading propaganda about “doubting the United States.” She also made provocative remarks such as “Resist the mainland? Overestimating your strength” and “In the event of a mainland attack on Taiwan, the people of Taiwan are all cannon fodder,” triggering reports from the public.

The Republic of China Immigration Department issued a press release today, stating that the behavior of Chinese spouse Liu surnamed, using the name “Yaya in Taiwan” to openly advocate for the Chinese Communist Party to forcefully unify Taiwan, is considered as advocating for the elimination of the sovereignty of the Republic of China, which is not tolerated by the society. The Immigration Department sternly condemned such behavior.

The Taiwan Immigration Department emphasized that “the residence permit for family reunion of Ms. Liu in Taiwan has been revoked in accordance with the law, and she is prohibited from reapplying for such permit within the next 5 years. Ms. Liu must comply with the Immigration Department’s order to leave the country within the specified period. Failure to leave will result in forced deportation in accordance with the law, to ensure our national security and maintain social stability.”

The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China held a regular press conference on the 13th, presided over by Deputy Minister and Spokesperson Liang Wenjie. He pointed out that the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights prohibits any propaganda that incites war, and the government has also incorporated the covenant into domestic law. Therefore, the statements made by mainland spouses in Taiwan advocating for the “military reunification of Taiwan by the Chinese Communist Party” are not allowed and do not fall within the scope of freedom of speech protection.

In addition, the mainland spouse “Enqi” on the Douyin platform account claimed that “the reunification of the motherland is unstoppable,” and the mainland spouse “Xiaowei” on the Douyin platform raised the national flag and stated that Taiwan is a part of the Chinese Communist Party, have all been reported to the Immigration Department and other relevant authorities by the public.

The Republic of China Immigration Department, based on alleged violations of the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area and relevant regulations, has notified mainland spouse “Enqi” to provide a statement at the Immigration Department. “Enqi” has completed the interview, and the Immigration Department is currently conducting the investigation according to the law and will consult with relevant agencies to discuss the subsequent actions. Furthermore, the Immigration Department has also sent a letter to mainland spouse “Xiaowei,” and after the recent interview, will proceed with further investigation and handling according to the relevant procedures.
