Flu Complicated Pneumonia Same As COVID-19, Li Shanshan Reveals Hospitalization for 13 Days

Former Miss Hong Kong 1996 four-time champion Li Shan Shan recently made a comeback and granted interviews to multiple media outlets. She revealed on the online program “Uncle’s Love” hosted by Jin Cheng that she had contracted influenza A virus last month, causing a fever of about 39.6 degrees Celsius and developing pneumonia. Li Shan Shan mentioned that her symptoms were identical to those of Taiwanese artist Big S (Xu Xi Yuan), and she had to stay in the hospital for 13 days before being discharged.

In a video update on “Uncle’s Love” on the 21st, Li Shan Shan disclosed that on January 3rd, the day she planned to start a live broadcast, she unexpectedly spiked a high fever of 39.6 degrees Celsius. Despite her initial intention to proceed with the live broadcast, her co-host advised her to go to the hospital, and she obediently followed the suggestion.

Li Shan Shan shared that she lost her ability to take care of herself on the first day of hospitalization. She mentioned, “I couldn’t even go to the bathroom by myself, so I had to handle it on the bed.” The following day, her condition deteriorated rapidly, with her blood oxygen saturation level dropping to 83% (normal range is 95%-100%), and she also developed pneumonia. She wanted to be transferred to the intensive care unit, but all beds were occupied, so the doctor quickly brought in equipment to help raise her blood oxygen level.

After a 13-day treatment, Li Shan Shan was finally discharged. Upon learning of Big S’s passing, she felt a lingering fear and urged the audience not to underestimate common cold symptoms. She emphasized, “I had influenza A, and my condition was identical to that of Big S. Don’t wait until the condition becomes severe before seeing a doctor.”

Li Shan Shan mentioned that this hospitalization was the most severe she had experienced. She had previously suffered from panic disorder, leading her to seclude herself and avoid contact with others for an extended period. After years of hiding from the public, she finally appeared at a charity event in February 2019, where she revealed her past hospitalization due to illness. In November of the same year, during a film shoot, she publicly acknowledged her panic disorder for the first time, describing moments of feeling like she was on the brink of suffocation.

Now 47 years old, Li Shan Shan won the championship in the Miss Hong Kong pageant in 1996, also receiving awards for “Best Photogenic Award,” “Most Popular Media Award,” and “Talent Award.” She has appeared in various television dramas such as “Forensic Heroes,” “Detective Investigation Files,” and “Burning Flame” following her pageant success.
