Flight Attendants Greet You During Boarding – You Won’t Believe the Reason Behind It

In the course of most people’s lives, there is an experience of traveling by plane. At the boarding moment, the smiling flight attendants warmly greet each passenger with a friendly “Hello.” but the reason behind their greetings may surprise you.

Flight attendant Rania, also known as @itsmekikooooo on social media, posted a popular video explaining the reason behind this tradition.

She revealed that the enthusiastic greetings during boarding are not just for courtesy but also an important safety check that the cabin crew are trained to conduct on each passenger.

In the video, she explained, “Did you know that when the flight attendants greet you, it’s not just out of politeness but to check if you are intoxicated or unwell, which may prevent you from boarding.”

She added, “It is also to see who can assist us in emergency situations.” Rania is a flight attendant for a Hungarian airline and a social media influencer who often shares videos about the life of flight attendants and flying tips.

Flight attendants must adhere to their duties. Even an intoxicated passenger could pose a risk. Through a quick greeting like “Hello,” they assess if the passenger is too drunk to board. According to the Huffington Post, they also pay attention to other suspicious behaviors.

A former flight attendant echoed Rania’s sentiment, “As a former flight attendant, we always greet customers first, of course, paying attention to intoxication, difficult behaviors, and so on.”

In a TikTok video uploaded by former flight attendant @katkamalani, she discussed the importance of having physically strong individuals on board. “So, these people can assist us in emergency situations,” she said.

She explained that flight attendants take note if there are military personnel, pilots, firefighters, police officers, nurses, and doctors on board. She added, “In case of a medical emergency… or a security breach, we know who can help us on the plane.”

Netizens also shared their boarding experiences. One netizen said, “One time I had to take an alcohol test because when that very beautiful flight attendant greeted me, I said ‘Good night’ to her. But I was sober at the time.”

Another passenger shared, “One time, I was alone, crying a lot after a breakup, and the flight attendant moved me from the back of the plane to the first class.”

Apart from the boarding greetings, another former flight attendant disclosed lesser-known insider information about flying.

Barbara Bacilleri from Argentina frequently shares her flight tips and tricks with her 708,000 followers on Instagram, for frequent fliers to learn from.

The 31-year-old woman now revealed more information, including how to protect personal belongings’ safety and who really owns the overhead space above the seat.

This former flight attendant said, “Flying is often seen as a safe and orderly experience, but the reality is there are many things passengers are unaware of.”

She mentioned that these things could make the flight uncomfortable or even dangerous.

“But when you are sleeping or distracted, someone could be rummaging through the overhead bin, stealing things from your luggage, without anyone noticing,” Bacilleri revealed.

Bacilleri also pointed out that the overhead bin space actually doesn’t belong to you.

Some people may not know that carry-on luggage on the plane does not have a designated spot, meaning sometimes passengers must store their luggage in a more rearward position.
