A father from Long Island tragically lost his life while on vacation in Bermuda as he tried to rescue a mother and her son who were drowning. In response to this heroic act, his friends and family have launched a crowdfunding campaign not only to help them through this difficult time but also with the intention to purchase a water rescue jet ski to donate to the local community in Bermuda in honor of his brave actions.
The selfless hero who sacrificed his life to save others was 48-year-old Jamie Lambros from Deer Park, Suffolk County, Long Island. On October 7th, while on a cruise with 11 family members to tour Horseshoe Bay Beach in Bermuda, he saw a mother and her 10-year-old son struggling in the water. Without hesitation, he rushed to their aid and saved their lives, but tragically lost his own in the process. His brother, Joey Pappas, told 1010 WINS radio station that Jamie’s fearless act of bravery came as no surprise: “He was the bravest, most fearless, and most selfless person I have ever known.”
Jamie’s funeral is scheduled to take place on October 19th. His family has set up a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help them get through this challenging time and to purchase a water rescue jet ski named “Jamie’s Rescue” to donate to the local community in Bermuda as a tribute to his courageous deed. His family mentioned that Horseshoe Bay Beach is a popular tourist destination in Bermuda but lacks sufficient safety measures and emergency responders, hoping that by taking this action, they can prevent further tragedies from occurring. The GoFundMe campaign has raised $38,000 so far, and those willing to contribute can visit the website: https://tinyurl.com/52a7f8sa
