Recently, extreme strong winds have hit Beijing, with maximum gusts reaching level 14. On April 13th, mainland director Yi Xiaoxing and actors Hu Xianxu and Deng Jiajia encountered the strong winds while flying back to Beijing. After landing safely, Yi Xiaoxing posted on Weibo, revealing that he was so frightened that he even wrote a farewell letter to the producer.
At 17:00 on April 13th, Beijing downgraded to issue regional yellow and blue wind warnings. At 20:02 on the same day, Yi Xiaoxing wrote on Weibo: “Just passed through the gates of hell! The wind was howling at Beijing Airport, our plane shook like a sieve. In my twenty years of flying, I have never experienced such turbulence… Both Hu Xianxu and Deng Jiajia who were on the plane were scared out of their wits, I’ve already sent my farewell letter.”
Following this, actor Hu Xianxu replied in the comments, “Really scared stiff? Thank you to the crew, everyone must pay attention to safety when traveling!” Actress Deng Jiajia stated, “I’m okay, relatively calm.” Yi Xiaoxing followed up with, “Whose eyes are brimming with tears?”
From April 11th to 13th, influenced by a strong cold air mass, the North China region experienced an unusually prolonged period of strong winds with speeds reaching up to level 14, a historical rarity for this time of year. Due to the impact of the strong winds, as of noon on the 12th, over 3200 domestic flights in China have been canceled. This marks the highest number of flight cancellations so far this year. More than 900 flights were canceled at Beijing Capital Airport and Beijing Daxing Airport, accounting for over 40% of the total flights.
The Central Meteorological Department predicts that the strong cold air affecting North China and the eastern part of Huang-Huai will result in strong wind conditions. Observational stations recorded wind speeds on the 12th that approached historical extreme values since 1951. This period of extreme strong wind is expected to subside by the 14th.
